Local primary school pupils wowed judges with their science investigations at the Ogden Trust Science Fair and among the judging panel were our very own Miss Cramer and Mr Marshall!
Over 750 children from four schools across Calderdale took part in the initiative which began with Science Fairs held at each school. Winners were selected from each to go forward to the final event held at Copley Primary School on 5 October.
The young scientists covered an impressive range of topics from the planets and colours to making a lava lamp, finding out which drinks are the most sugary and even how to grow mould!
Miss Cramer and Mr Marshall joined other judges from the Ogden Trust and Calderdale Council Education Department on the night and were very impressed by the quality of the entries and how confident the children were when talking about their projects. It was also a great way to get involved and build transition links with some of our local feeder schools.
Miss Cramer said “We had a brilliant evening judging at the Ogden Trust Science Fair. It was a complete honour to speak to such articulate, intelligent and confident young scientists about their projects and we were blown away by all the work on show!”
The judges really struggled to select an overall winner from the excellent entries but in the end they chose Evie from New Road Primary School and her fantastic project ‘Making Mould’ to receive the Oliver Smithies trophy.
“I know it's such a cliché, but it was genuinely really hard to choose a winner but we loved Evie’s entry for its originality and zest for learning!” Mr Marshall added.
“It’s just really great to see so many students engaging enthusiastically with Science from a Primary School age. We hope to welcome many of these amazing scientists to explore and learn further with us at Ryburn in the future.”
