Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.

That’s the first term done! It’s been another event-filled half-term with open evenings, karaoke sing-a-longs and we hosted our Community Lunch for the first time in three years. We would also like to say a huge well done to the whole of Year 11 for completing their mocks.

Community Lunch Come Back

We were so happy to be able to bring back our Community Lunch event for the first time in three years. We welcomed the wider Ryburn Community into the schools as well as Bolton Brow and New Road who gave some lovely performances for everyone. Well done to our presenters for being fantastic chat show hosts. Our ambassadors, for helping make the day run smoothly. Top vox, Dance Academy and Dance Collective kept the festive energy at an all-time high. Our students are so talented and we love that they want to get so involved in events such as these. Thank you to everyone who attended and we’re glad you all had a brilliant time. Now to start planning for next year!

Ryburn Sixth Open Evening

Our Ryburn Sixth Open Evening was a huge success! Thank you to everyone for coming, and a huge thanks go out to our staff and students who showed what an amazing Sixth Form we have. We received some excellent feedback from the night, and we look forward to seeing so many students joining us next year.

Staff Sing-a-long

In November our amazing Staff took to the stage and sang their hearts out, all to raise money for Children in Need. Students had an amazing time and sang along with every act. Standing ovations and cheering all around. Thank you as well to our glamorous host, Bruno (Mr Duffy ), for bringing all of this together.

Share Your Story

We Welcomed the BBC Careers Roadshow to the school. Here to share their stories were George Yates, Legal Advisor for the BBC and Vicky Shaw, Production Accountant for BBC Sport.

They both shared really powerful stories with students. George discussed her coming out journey and how that affected her relationship with her faith. Vicky told us how she became a carer at a young age and the part it played in her career journey.

George and Vicky then took time to answer students' questions about the topics discussed. They were very impressed with how well the students listened to them and the maturity that they showed.

Thank you so much to George, Vicky, presenter Robyn Richford and the BBC for coming to our school and sharing these important experiences with our students.

Advice from the experts: Careers role models

We have a lot of interesting people visit the school and share their career journeys with our students and offer advice for anyone thinking about going into their respective fields.

Recently we were visited by:

  • Victoria: Clinical Psychologist

  • Christina: Drama Practitioner

  • Beth: Challenge Day Presenter

  • Marc: Sales Director

  • Adam: Portfolio Career

  • Phil: Author

They all have a wealth of experience and you can watch all of their interviews and more on our Careers Role Models page.

Christmas Hamper Competition

Our Year 7 Student Council organised for their form groups to put together ten fun festive hampers to be raffled off in time for the holidays. The students did an amazing job at putting the hampers together. There were themes such as ‘Elf’ and a movie night.

The two forms that made the best hampers got to watch a Christmas Film in the theatre. Congratulations to 7.5 and 7.9, we hope you enjoyed Home Alone.

The grand total from the raffle ticket sales was over £700 so Year 7 should be feeling very proud of themselves.

Sporting Achievements

The U15 hockey team joined up with NHGS to take on Rastrick for an 11- a side match at Ryburn. The Ryburn girls were up against some tough competition and for some of the Year 8s, they were playing against boys two years above. The strength and determination from the whole team was relentless and although the final score of 3-1 to Rastrick didn’t reflect the skill or fight Ryburn showed, there were lots of positives to take away.

We take a break from hockey practices and fixtures until the New Year now but well done and thank you to everyone who has participated so far.

In round 4 of the ESFA Cup, our Year 9 Football Team won a brilliant 4-2 against Clitheroe Grammar. Ryburn gave one of the best first-half performances of the season resulting in four brilliantly taken goals. However, Clitheroe responded with a nice goal of their own and the team had to be at their best.

Clitheroe applied pressure in the second half resulting in a penalty which made the score 4-2, but Despite this, Ryburn defended brilliantly limiting the opposition to very few shots on goal.

Ryburn will now play Manchester Grammar school in round 5 and we wish the team the best of luck.

Sharing Kind words for Anti-bullying week

For Anti-Bullying Week, students had the opportunity to reach out to one another and send kind messages. We were overwhelmed by the number of cards submitted and are proud that our students really took the opportunity to spread some kindness.

Shining bright in technology

At the start of the academic year, we put out a request for any old and unused USB cables for a Technology and we just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated. The students had a great time making these excellent light-up boxes and we’re so happy that we had enough cables so that everyone could get involved.
